Brockton School:
Where Every Student Matters, Every Family Matters, Community Matters, and Learning for Life Matters

“I guarantee you have never experienced a school like Brockton,” says Head of School and lifelong educational leader Karen McCulla. “Brockton was established in North Vancouver in 2004, and since then has grounded itself as an international leader in holistic, personalized, and innovative education, where students thrive in their curricular and co-curricular pursuits. The school’s mission is to inspire the growth of outstanding humans. It is genuinely a place where every student matters, families matter, community matters, and learning for life matters. Just imagine that for a moment.”

In a world that’s constantly changing, families are searching for more than just academics. They’re looking for a community that sees their child, supports their potential, and inspires their growth. At Brockton, this is a lived reality. Guided by its Portrait of a Graduate, Brockton nurtures students with purpose, curiosity, and connection. Graduates emerge conscientious and compassionate, grounded in humility and integrity, and equipped with the resilience and self-discipline to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Brockton graduates don’t just achieve; they contribute. They live with joy and balance, ready to make a meaningful difference in the world.

“The world is full of choices, and the right to choose where and how one educates their child is a critical decision,” says McCulla. “Brockton values its relationship with both public and independent schools, and sees itself as one option among many. As a Head of School and as a parent, I have a choice. My children are the most important part of my life, and for their education, I choose Brockton.”

A Seamless Journey of Discovery

From their first backpacks to their graduation caps, Brockton students are part of something truly unique. The school offers programs from Junior Kindergarten (for children turning four by December 31 of the school year) through to Grade 12 graduation, and is the only independent school in British Columbia to offer all four International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes: PYP, MYP, DP, and CP. This continuity creates a seamless, inquiry-based learning journey that encourages curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking at every stage. 100% of Brockton graduates are accepted into their post-secondary program of choice.

With an impressive 6:1 student-to-faculty ratio, with a rich variety of specialist-taught courses, and thoughtfully designed programs like the Middle Years POD (Grade 6 and 7), Brockton ensures that each learner is seen and supported as an individual. Teachers don’t just deliver lessons, they help students uncover what makes them want to learn.

McCulla explains, “When one looks at the journey of learning, it is clear that early engagement is profound. That’s why Brockton developed its Junior Kindergarten. As the journey continues, each child—at different times—will encounter defining moments in their development. We recognize these transition stages and design our programs to support them, while also meeting each child where they are. To have one’s child supported by meaningful adults—teachers, counsellors, coaches, and peers—during these moments can make all the difference. We can all reflect on such moments in our own lives and the impact of those who surrounded us.”

Where Community is Felt

For many families, the “Brockton difference” is immediate.

 One parent shared:
“We were tired of not feeling ‘heard’ as parents, and tired of our daughter not being ‘seen’ as a student. At Brockton, it just feels like an extension of our family. The amount of care and attention my daughter gets from her teachers and the staff almost doesn’t feel real, it’s that incredible.”

This deep, human connection between teachers, students, and families is what truly sets Brockton apart. The school works with each learner to help design their educational journey, fostering confidence and self-awareness alongside academic excellence.

The results speak for themselves: Brockton maintains a 100% graduation rate, with all students earning BC Ministry of Education Honours Standing, and IB results that consistently exceed global averages. Provincial and international benchmarking further confirm what families already know: Brockton students thrive.

Voices of Inspiration

The Brockton experience extends far beyond academics. Students are encouraged to explore their identities, passions, and impact through the IB Programme, Outdoor Education, community engagement, leadership opportunities, and a vibrant arts and athletics culture.

A Grade 12 student reflected:

“Brockton has shaped me into an incredibly balanced person. I’ve been able to try so many things: sports, community teams, lab internships, and it’s taught me how to manage my time, challenge myself, and find joy in learning. What keeps me here is the community. I have close bonds with my teachers and friends, and I’m so grateful for that.”

At Brockton, education is not just about what students know, but who they become. It’s a place where curiosity meets compassion, and where young people are empowered to use their learning in contribution to a better world.
